The Color of Evil Blurb:

Tad McGreevy has a power that he has never revealed, not even to his life-long best friend, Stevie Scranton. When Tad looks at others, he sees colors. These auras tell Tad whether a person is good or evil. At night, Tad dreams about the evil-doers, reliving their crimes in horrifyingly vivid detail.

But Tad doesn't know if the evil acts he witnesses in his nightmares are happening now, are already over, or are going to occur in the future. He has no control over the horrifying visions. He has been told (by his parents) never to speak of his power. All Tad knows is that he wants to protect those he loves. And he wants the bad dreams to stop.

At Tad's eighth birthday party (April 1, 1995) in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the clown his parents hire to entertain Tad's third-grade classmates is one of the bad people. Pogo, the Killer Clown (aka Michael Clay) is a serial killer. So begins 53 nights of terror as Tad relives Pogo's crime, awakens screaming, and recites the terrifying details to his disbelieving family. The situation becomes so dire that Tad is hospitalized in a private institution under the care of a psychiatrist--who also does not believe the small boy's stories.

And then the police arrest Pogo, the Killer Clown.

Flash forward to the beginning of Tad's junior year in high school, 8 years later. Tad is 16 and recovered from the spring of his third-grade year. When Michael Clay was caught and imprisoned, the crime spree ended and so did Tad's bad dreams.

Until now, in the year of our Lord 2003, when evil once again stalks the land.

This is a terrifying, intense story of the dark people and places that lurk just beneath the surface of seemingly normal small-town America. As one reviewer says, "Wilson nails the darkness beneath the surface of small-town Midwestern life with an intense story based on fact."

Tad must wage a silent war against those who would harm the ones he loves. A battle to the death.

Red is For Rage by Connie Corcoran Wilson (2013)

Red is For Rage Blurb:

Red is For Rage is the second book in the award-winning The Color of Evil series by Connie (Corcoran) Wilson. The Color of Evil won the E-Lit Gold Medal for Horror (Jenkins Group), and the Silver Feather (IWPA).

In Book Two, we learn more about the exact nature of Tad’s paranormal power, Tetrachromatic Super Vision. Can this keen sight help Tad find Stevie Scranton? Will Tad suffer another breakdown from reliving the crimes of serial killer Michael Clay (aka, Pogo, the Killer Clown), as he did when only eight years old? Can Tad learn to harness his special sight to help his loved ones?

When Stevie Scranton goes missing, best friend Tad vows to do everything he can to find him. Even if Stevie is dead, Sally and Earl Scranton, (his parents), and Shannon, (Stevie’s older sister), crave closure. Tad enlists the help of retired policeman Charlie Chandler and a team of volunteers, including Charlie’s old partner, Evelyn Hoeflinger. This rag-tag team of detectives continues searching for Stevie Scranton, the runty misfit of Cedar Falls’ Sky High. In their search, they discover a monster every bit as dangerous as Pogo and must confront him in order to save Stevie.

Tad sees auras around others that tell him whether they are good or evil. The truly evil are surrounded by a khaki aura (THE COLOR OF EVIL). At night, Tad suffers vivid nightmares that depict the crimes of the evil-doers. Michael Clay (the serial killer Pogo) escapes custody. On the loose again, Pogo’s actions restart the vicious cycle of violent nightmares. Pogo poses a threat to the entire town of Cedar Falls, but he is especially a threat to Tad McGreevy.

Pogo has one main goal: kill Tad McGreevy so that Tad cannot disclose Clay’s location. Pogo doesn’t realize that, up until now, Tad has been unable to harness the paranormal ability he possesses. Now, Tad McGreevy must try to learn to use his unique gift. Stevie Scranton’s fate hangs in the balance. Tad’s power, if precognitive, could save everyone he loves.

Jenny SanGiovanni returns from her father’s home in Boulder, Colorado, to finish her senior year with her old classmates. She brings home a new set of problems. Jeremy Gustaffsson, the fifth-year senior boyfriend in Jenny’s junior year, graduated. But Jeremy is still in town, still obsessed with Jenny, still dangerous. When Jenny broke up with Jeremy, it made Jeremy mad. Bad things happen to good people when Jeremy Gustaffsson gets angry and descends into a red rage.

All Jenny’s cheerleader friends from her junior year are back. Many, like Janice Kramer, Heather Crompton and Melody Harris, have problems of their own. Jenny deals with adolescent issues such as self-esteem and self-worth, problems that tax her soul. But Jenny is not alone. Another Sky High student is driven to the brink. Will that individual plunge into the abyss of despair?

And what of the adults? What has the stress of Stevie’s nine-month ordeal done to Earl and Sally Scranton’s marriage? What problems confront the other adults in Cedar Falls as three evil-doers rise up to create chaos and do them harm?

Red is For Rage and rage runs rampant in this small Iowa town in the year of our Lord 2004.

Praise For The Color of Evil Series:

As reviewer (True ReviewAndy Andrews put it: "Wilson makes all this count and mixes the ugly and the good in ways that can turn out to be rewarding for readers...There are moments of a real gift here...deft touches...especially between Stevie (Scranton) and his girlfriend, that are quite touching and even inspired...So, I remain happy to follow this series, I am assuming this series will reach a conclusion and I cannot wait to see how Wilson writes it."

"Connie Corcoran Wilson weaves a deftly fine scalpel in an age where a crude blade is more the norm. Her work is a smooth, subtle hybrid mix of science fiction, thriller, and horror that realizes a unique and pointed vision in the great tradition of Phillip K. Dick and Ray Bradbury. Her voice is a wonder to behold, at once dark and somber while maintaining a glimmer of hope that shines in the hearts of her heroes, who cling to the light. Like Stephen King, nothing escapes her discerning eye, the result of which is tale after tale that bleed life onto the page, both literally and figuratively." -
Jon Land, bestselling author of the Caitlin Strong Series

"Connie Wilson is back - She's good! She's DAMN good! In a world of mainly bad-to-fair writers, she stands above the crowd with plot, description , and strong character. Believe me, you'll enjoy her latest! that's a guarantee!...She's a born storyteller!" -
William F. Nolan, Living Legend in Dark Fantasy, Logan's RunLogan's WorldNightworlds

"Wilson's characters come alive on the page. Comparisons to Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Philip K. Dick aside, Wilson has spent 33 years teaching students in this age range. She knows what she is talking about."-
Gary Braver, author of Flashback and 8 other thrillers.

"The Color of Evil series is old-school psychological horror, artfully blended with new-school shocks and twists. ..Bravo!" -
Jonathan Maberry, New York Times best-selling author, multiple Bram Stoker winner

Annabel Hertz - Seeing Green

27. Seeing Green by Annabel Hertz (2014)
Length: 223 pages
Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Started: 17 April 2014
Finished: 26 April 2014
Where did it come from? Many thanks to Samantha at JKS Communications for sending me a copy of this book to read.
How long has it been on my TBR pile? Since 2 April 2014
Why do I have it? I like contemporary fiction and Annabel Hertz is a new author for me.

Arcani Kirsch - a recent college graduate with Jewish-Hopi roots - is convinced that, just as her name implies, she is a woman who is 'destined for greatness'. Having attended the Rio Earth Summit in 1992, Arcani is subsequently compelled to do her part to make the world a better place after she witnesses the plight of the indigenous peoples.

To that end, Arcani leaves her west coast cocoon and joins Environ Mentality - an international conglomeration of green-minded businesses in Washington, DC, that are committed to getting the Earth Treaty ratified. The first step in implementing their plan is ensuring that the next US President attends a Ministerial meeting in Paris. Arcani sets the wheels in motion, and spearheads a campaign to do just that.

There are, however, various potholes along Arcani's environmental path: One of her former ultra nationalist professors has plagiarized her thesis; then there's the man who could derail her with his lustiness; the one who wants her to come to Christ; and the one she'd written off as dead. Not to mention having to cope with Caroline, her albatross of a sister. Yes, the path to Paris is indeed muddy.

But Arcani plows ahead, trying to stay true to her vision, making sure that her methods are kosher, and that her doting Aunt Lillian is proud of her. En route to the Ministerial, Arcani makes her mark on the world in totally unexpected ways. Against a backdrop of world events that are highly relevant to today, Seeing Green by Annabel Hertz explores the lighter side to dedicating oneself to changing a world that's rather resistant to change; as well as drawing on themes of individuality and enlightenment.

I wasn't entirely sure what I was expecting when I first started this book - although the synopsis certainly was very intriguing. I must say that I found this story extremely funny. Arcani's personality shone through to me, I sympathized with her and appreciated that she stayed true to her principles. I give Seeing Green by Annabel Hertz a definite A!

Christine Amsden, Author of Mind Games: A Cassie Scot Novel, Talks About the Imperfections of Parents

Meet Christine Amsden

Christine Amsden has been writing fantasy and science fiction for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and relationships, and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.

At the age of 16, Christine was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Disease, a condition that effects the retina and causes a loss of central vision. She is now legally blind, but has not let this slow her down or get in the way of her dreams. (You can learn more here.)

In addition to writing, Christine teaches workshops on writing at Savvy Authors. She also does some freelance editing work.

Christine currently lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, Austin, who has been her biggest fan and the key to her success. They have two beautiful children.

Synopsis from Goodreads

Beware your heart and soul…

Evan broke Cassie’s heart two months ago, and she still doesn’t know why. She throws herself into family, friends and her new job at the sheriff’s department, but nothing helps. The only thing that finally allows her heal and move on is the love of a new man, mind mage Matthew Blair. Cassie finds him...irresistible

Matthew may also be the only one who can help keep the nonmagical residents of Eagle Rock from going crazy over the murder of a beloved pastor’s wife. It looks like a sorcerer is to blame, but while Cassie tries to figure out who, others take matters into their own hands. With tensions running so hot, a single spark might set Eagle Rock ablaze.

Coming to Amazon and Barnes and Noble on 10 April 2014!

I would like to welcome Christine Amsden, author of the Cassie Scot Series to Emeraldfire's Bookmark. Ms. Amsden was kind enough to write a guest post for me and here it is below in her own words:

'Imperfect Parents'
by Christine Amsden

No one's perfect, but many of us expect our parents to be. Or maybe the trouble is that as children, we believe they are. The truth comes as a crushing shock to many adolescents, which feeds into the “generation gap” that commonly surfaces during the teenage years. It usually isn't until young people leave home and see some of the world when they can finally resolve the gap between expectation and reality.

Of course, some parents are more imperfect than others. Some mistakes are easy to forgive or overlook, some human weaknesses, such as temper, so normal that it takes much less to recognize that only we who are without sin should throw stones.

But what happens when parents make a bigger mistake? Is it okay to forgive them, even though what they did was not and can never be all right?

I see forgiveness as one of the major themes of my Cassie Scot series. It is my view that forgiveness isn't something you do for the benefit of the person being forgiven, but rather for the benefit of the person doing the forgiving. Forgiving is a process of healing and moving on. It is not about saying, “Well, I understand and that's all right then.” Maybe it isn't all right. Many things aren't. Many people act out of fear or selfishness and do things that leave deep, permanent scars. But when we forgive, which (done correctly) is a long-term process rather than a momentary act, we set aside anger and work towards healing.

I'm not a big fan of black or white characters. These days, it doesn't seem like anyone is, but it can still be challenging to depict certain people as having redeeming qualities after they do terrible things. I mean, is it okay to like anything at all about a man who kills, or steals, or disowns his daughter out of fear and selfishness?

Cassie Scot's parents are not likeable, but they do love their children. All of them. Including Cassie. She's a challenge for her parents because she reminds each, in their own way, of personal failures. (Part of what I mean by that comes clear in book two, the rest will be revealed in full in book four.)

I won't tell readers how to feel. Some hate Edward and Sheila Scot (passionately). Some have mixed feelings. Not too many people really like them, and I can't blame them. For my part, I … understand them to a certain extent. They aren't good people who do bad things and they aren't bad people who do good things. They are people who act at times out of selfishness and at times out of fear, but people who still have the capacity to love.

But this isn't their story.

Another theme I try to present in this series is that change comes from within. Cassie can't fix the people around her. (This is why I was ultimately forced to write spin-off novels for her two best friends. At first I was as confused as Cassie, thinking she could solve the problems that began to develop in the second book.) Cassie's parents won't change in this series because she doesn't have the power to fix them, and this isn't their story.

Cassie will never have perfect parents; she'll only ever have the ones she got. But she can forgive them, and she can decide that they were wrong about her. She can decide who she wants to be, regardless of what they think she can be.

Praise for the Cassie Scot Series:

From Publisher’s Weekly:

“Amsden continues the story of the only mundane member of a supernaturally-gifted family in this middling sequel to Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective. Cassie, stubborn and proud, is bravely trying to live on her own after her family disowns her. Struggling to make ends meet, she accepts a case involving a pair of magical girls who disappeared from summer camp. With the aid of the handsome Evan Blackwood, to whom Cassie is attracted despite her family’s disapproval and her own better judgment, she follows the trail of the missing girls.

What she finds is a dark side of the magical world, and the hidden depths of her family’s past force her to reconsider long-held assumptions. The growing complexity of Cassie’s world makes this an entertaining installment, focusing as much on the will-they, won’t-they romantic chemistry between Cassie and Evan as on the primary mystery. An inconclusive ending is clearly intended to feed into the next volume.”

Kim Falconer, bestselling author of The Spell of Rosette, Quantum Enchantment Series, had this to say:

"When sorcerers call the shots, what’s a girl without powers to do? Get ready for a ripper of a murder mystery full of romance and intrigue, where magic potions bubble, passions spark and vampires are definitely not your friend. Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective grabs you by the heart and won’t let go until the very last page. Well written, immersive and unputdownable. This is urban fantasy at its best. More please!”

Andra Watkins - To Live Forever: An Afterlife Journey of Meriwether Lewis

26. To Live Forever: An Afterlife Journey of Meriwether Lewis by Andra Watkins (2014)
Length: 305 pages
Genre: Historical Fantasy
Started: 13 April 2014
Finished: 23 April 2014
Where did it come from? Many thanks to Dorothy at Pump up Your Book for sending me a copy of this book to read.
How long has it been on my TBR pile? Since 1 March 2014
Why do I have it? I like historical fantasy, especially when it also includes paranormal elements in the plot. Andra Watkins is also a new author for me.

On October 11, 1809, famed explorer and governor of the Upper Louisiana Territory, Meriwether Lewis was found dead of two gunshot wounds. The circumstances surrounding his death were suspicious, but his death was tentatively ruled a suicide. Drifting alone in the mists of Nowhere for the past two centuries, Merry has repeatedly attempted to gain redemption in various ways. However, with the taint of suicide shadowing his legacy, each attempt Merry has made has resulted in failure. Now, his last hope at redemption has finally arrived...

Nine-year-old Emmaline Cagney is on the run. Fleeing her madame mother in New Orleans, Em desperately needs to find her father in Nashville. But with only a few of her daddy's letters to guide her, Em is not entirely sure where to start such a long journey. And with so many evil people looking for her, the only thing she knows for certain is that she'll need some help to get where she's going.

Merry had never imagined that his final assignment would involve helping a nine-year-old tomboy find her father in Nashville. He certainly knows the way, but to get there, Merry must cross his own grave along the Natchez Trace. He'll also encounter the corrupt Judge Wilkinson - an old foe who has held a grudge against Merry for the past two hundred years. The Judge also has his own despicable plans for Emmaline.

In my opinion, this was a very intriguing premise to begin with, and I was completely invested in the story by the end of the first chapter. The characters were well-developed, and the story was thoroughly engrossing and very poignant. I found myself caring for these characters, and I wanted to see how they worked through their various dilemmas. Andra Watkins is a new author for me at the moment, but I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from her in the future. I absolutely loved this book and give it an A+!

Why do I have it? I like short stories and Stacy Reid is a new author for me.

Alright, so as far as rash decisions went, this perhaps wasn't the wisest course of action. But Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne's will had to remain strong. After all, desperate times called for desperate measures.

If the only way to save her family's estate and reputation was to aim a derringer pistol at the Duke of Calydon, then so be it. For Lady Jocelyn demands satisfaction - and she will have it at any cost. Even if it means demanding the hand of the dark and foreboding Duke himself.

But Jocelyn has made the first move against a very dangerous opponent...For Sebastian Thornton is no callow youth to be trifled with. And the lady has just played her hand. Now, it's his turn...

Sebastian is in need of a wife. And to find a wife with such spirit and fire - even if she means to only marry him for his money - would be a great prize indeed. He intends to thoroughly take his pleasure with her...and demands his own satisfaction in return.

First of all, I must say that I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when I read this book. The title is intriguing, and actually is what first captured my attention. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story, though. For its length, I found the plot and characters to be very well-developed. I give this book a definite A! and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

When a beautiful stranger races into his bookshop to escape a sudden rainstorm, Cale Cameron - well-known rake - is instantly attracted to her. And wholly unprepared by the force of his desire. Especially for a lady whose name he doesn't even know.

Elizabeth, Lady Thornhill, is restless and hungers for something more from life. Society would most certainly frown upon a respectable countess - even if she were widowed - fraternizing with a mere bookseller. Especially when that bookseller is the notorious rake, Cale Cameron.

As their passion ignites and their connection grows, his brief liaison with Elizabeth begins to threaten the one thing Cale has always protected - his heart. Letting her go is the only practical solution to this predicament...and the only option Cale can not possibly tolerate.

I must say that I enjoyed reading this book. I was intrigued by the story, and found the characters to be sympathetically drawn and extremely likable. I give this book an A! and am looking forward to reading further books in this series in the future.

But it’s hard to say no to your soul mate. Thinking she’s maxed out her supply of destiny, Chloe settles down to enjoy the happily-ever-after.

Tal says that she’s one of The People sent from heaven to maintain the cosmic balance. The People never need to hide what they are because no one ever believes them. Until Chloe does.

Chloe sets out to help Tal and The People as much as she can as an outsider. Seth says as long as no one wears their underpants on the outside Chloe can do what she likes. What he doesn’t say is that he’s also one of The People, although non-practicing. But as the Final Battle draws nearer, Chloe realizes it’s time for Seth to go collect his regulation sword. Why do I have it? I like fantasy and have read and enjoyed Practical Magic by the same author in the past.

Best friends Hailey and Claire are spending their last summer together before Claire moves to Florida with her grandparents. The Capri Beach Club has been the scene of so many memories for the girls, but this summer is especially bittersweet for them. Then, the morning after an awful storm, Hailey and Claire discover something unusual in the murky water at the bottom of the pool. There in the depths is a mysterious creature with a sharp tongue and a broken heart: a mermaid named Aquamarine has been separated from her sisters, swept away by the force of the storm.

Trapped in the deep end of the pool, Aquamarine is not only suffering from a severe case of homesickness, she is also experiencing the pangs of first love - for a totally inappropriate creature - a human teenage boy. Now, as this mythological yet very real being starts to fade in the burning August sun, the mermaid's fate rests with Hailey and Claire.

Just on the edge of growing up, during a summer that is the hottest on record, Claire and Hailey are discovering that life can take an unpredictable course, best friends are forever, and magic can often be found in the unlikeliest places. In Aquamarine, best-selling author Alice Hoffman weaves a luminous tale of nostalgia and enchantment, perfect for readers both young and old.

I've had this book on my TBR pile for almost three years. Despite waiting for such a long time to read the book, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was certainly intriguing and while definitely written for children, I found the characters well-developed and extremely likable. I give this book an A!

Khaki=Killer Blurb:

Khaki=Killer, the third novel in The Color of Evil series, follows young Tad McGreevy and friends at Cedar Falls' Sky High Lab School through the second semester of their senior year.

Recently named a "PageTurner" by Shelf Unbound magazine and NABE Pinnacle Thriller winner, the series details the adventures of the young man (Tad McGreevy) with the power to detect auras around others (Tetrachromatic Super Vision) and to relive the crimes of those with "the color of evil" in his dreams. Khaki=Killer.

Praise For The Color of Evil Series:

As reviewer (True Review) Andy Andrews put it: "Wilson makes all this count and mixes the ugly and the good in ways that can turn out to be rewarding for readers...There are moments of a real gift here...deft touches...especially between Stevie (Scranton) and his girlfriend, that are quite touching and even inspired...So, I remain happy to follow this series, I am assuming this series will reach a conclusion and I cannot wait to see how Wilson writes it."

Believe me, you'll enjoy her latest! that's a guarantee!...She's a born storyteller!" -
William F. Nolan, Living Legend in Dark Fantasy, Logan's Run, Logan's World, Nightworlds

Kathryn Meyer Griffith - Dinosaur Lake

22. Dinosaur Lake by Kathryn Meyer Griffith (2012)
The Dinosaur Lake Series Book 1
Length: 283 pages
Genre: Horror
Started: 31 March 2014
Finished: 17 April 2014
Where did it come from? Many thanks to Kathryn Meyer Griffith for sending me a copy of this book to read.
How long has it been on my TBR pile? Since 20 February 2014
Why do I have it? I like horror and have read and enjoyed several books by this author in the past.

Former police officer Henry Shore has been Chief Park Ranger at Crater Lake National Park for the past eight years. He loves his quiet life with his family in Oregon - the solitude, the peace, the tranquility, the predictability. He likes his park the way it has always been - fun, safe and family-friendly. But Henry is about to be tested in so many ways.

First the earthquakes begin...people start to go missing...then reports surface of some sort of mysterious water creature that's taken up residence in the caves below Crater Lake. Not only is it growing in size, the beast is also incredibly aggressive and cunning...and ravenous. And it's quickly acquiring a taste for human beings. Very much so. It has also recently developed the ability to walk on land.

So Henry, with the help of his wife, Ann - a reporter with the local newspaper; a young paleontologist named Justin Maltin; and a band of brave men must not only protect Henry's beloved Crater Lake National Park from this threat, but also the people who live there. Somehow, Henry and his men must find out where the monster lives and destroy it...before it can kill again.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The characters were extremely likable and sympathetic, and the plot was fast-paced and intriguing. One aspect of the story that I especially appreciated was that it didn't become completely bogged down with scientific jargon - it was very readable and action-packed. I give Dinosaur Lake a definite A! and I'm looking forward to reading the recently released sequel to Dinosaur Lake Dinosaur Lake II: Dinosaurs Arising.

Dinosaur Lake by Kathryn Meyer Griffith was also a Finalist for the 2014 EPIC Ebook Awards in the Suspense/Thriller Category.

Ami Blackwelder, Author of Dumah's Demons, Chats About The AngelFire Chronicles and Its Latest Installment

I would very much like to welcome Ami Blackwelder, author of the young adult Paranormal Thriller, Dumah's Demons. Ms. Blackwelder was nice enough to answer some questions for me about her young adult Paranormal Series The AngelFire Chronicles, and its latest installment Dumah's Demons. Thank you so much for stopping by Emeraldfire's Bookmark, Ms. Blackwelder, and I wish you all the best now and in the future!

Meet Ami Blackwelder

Ami Blackwelder is a Paranormal and SciFi author. Her stories range from Tween & YA to Adult. Growing up in Florida, she graduated UCF and in 1997 received her BA in English and additional teaching credentials. Then she packed her bags and traveled overseas to teach in Thailand, Nepal, Tibet, China and Korea. She has always loved writing and wrote poems and short stores since childhood; however, her novels began when she was in Thailand in her thirties.

Having won the Best Fiction Award from the University of Central Florida (Yes, The Blair Witch Project University), her short fiction From Joy We Come, Unto Joy We Return was published in the on campus literary magazine: Cypress Dome and remains to this day in University libraries around the USA. Later, she achieved the semi-finals in a Laurel Hemingway contest and published a few poems in the Thailand’s Expat magazine, and an article in the Thailand’s People newspaper. Additionally, she has published poetry in the Korea’s AIM magazine, the American Poetic Monthly magazine and Twisted Dreams Magazine.

Synopsis of Dumah's Demons

The story of Dumah, Kian’s sister and how she becomes a Dark Angel. The reader will better understand Dameon and Kian through this story which is told through the eyes of Dumah.

Follow her story as she and Kian fight to survive on the streets of Manhattan and see how one event changes both of their lives forever, driving her toward darkness of the Dark Angels and Kian toward the AngelFire protectors.

If you've read
She Speaks to Angels this is a great way to understand the motives of Dameon, Kian and Dumah. Dumah is found in Falling Angels, the sequel to be released April 2014.

Coming to Amazon on March 2, 2014!

Emeraldfire's Bookmark: First of all Ms. Blackwelder, where in the chronology of the AngelFire Chronicles does Dumah's Demons fall?

Ami Blackwelder: This novella is an accompaniment to the AngelFire Chronicles and is best read after reading She Speaks to Angels. I only say this because there are two spoilers in it if you have not read She Speaks to Angels. The next book to read would be Falling Angels where we see more of Dumah’s character.

Emeraldfire's Bookmark: Did something or someone in your own life serve as inspiration for either the plot or certain characters in Dumah's Demons?

Ami Blackwelder: Well, I think as a writer you always bring your own emotions and life experiences so I’d have to say, yes. But then again there is not one event that solely defines this story or the characters, it is an accumulation of events and people I’ve known.

Emeraldfire's Bookmark: I enjoy reading quite a lot of young adult paranormal or fantasy novels, but I admit that you are a new author to me. In your opinion, what would draw a new reader to your books?

Ami Blackwelder: I have always been told my stories are original. I hear readers say they’ve never read anything quite like my stories, that they always have several twists they were not expecting and once they get into the story they have a hard time putting them down. I have to say my stories tend to slower at first and build up the momentum. Some of later stuff just jumps right in.

Emeraldfire's Bookmark: If you're able to give a 'sneak peak' at all, how do you see the AngelFire Chronicles progressing?

Ami Blackwelder: LOL, I know exactly how it progresses. What can I tell the readers and fans? Ali and Kian are in for a lot of emotional turmoil in Falling Angels. Dumah pulls them to their limits, but if you think things get bad for our main characters in Falling Angels, Dumah has a treat in store in Angel Codes and the human race gets messy.

Emeraldfire's Bookmark: I noticed that you actually write five separate young adult series (I looked on Goodreads, so I might be missing one:)). Anyway, I was wondering how you manage to keep all the story lines straight?

Ami Blackwelder: I have an elf romance saga comprised of two books. It is done. Guardians of the Gate. I have a Mers Chronicles which is comprised of two books. Book two will be out later this year. AngelFire Chronicles is made up of three books, book two and three will be released shortly. Those are for YA and Tween.

Midnight: Century of the Vampires is comprised of three books and is finished, but it is New Adult. Zombie Housewives has two books in the series, and more may follow. It too is more of a New Adult series.

My last series is Shifter Evolutions and has five books in the series currently with a sixth possibility, and a spring off series possibility after the indie film is released. This is an adult series. So, I’m really only working on the angels and then will finish the mermaid story.

Emeraldfire's Bookmark: What are your future plans for writing - Do you already have your next book partially planned, or do you allow yourself a little 'down time' between books?

Ami Blackwelder: I usually go-go-go unless life gets in the way which it often does and I have to slow down to get some other stuff done. However, I do take down-time. Like now I’m in Chan Mai, Thailand and will be going into Cambodia. I do a lot of traveling or outdoors stuff for getting into different gears.

Emeraldfire's Bookmark: Who are your favorite authors and do you have any favorite genres that you like to read?

Ami Blackwelder: I like literature and dystopia. Hemingway, Jane Austen, Steinbeck, Charles Dickens, Suzanne Collins, and Veronica Roth. Loved Dr. Zhivago, but damn those sad endings.

Carolina West is a high school student living with her mother and younger sister in Arizona. She has been writing since she was fourteen years old. This is her first book.

About To Kill For His Queen:

Living in the world of werewolves, vampires, and dark magic can have a certain effect on a child, especially when that child is Hassen Mason, who seems destined to bring ruin to those he loves. Hassen was abandoned as a child and was immersed in the world of magic by the strange creatures that raised him. His lineage was a mystery, but no mystery buried in the past can stay buried for long - especially when that mystery is strong enough to span centuries.

An accident leaves Hassen without memories, and he must find a way to remember who he was and what his life meant to him before his past creeps up and kills him. He encounters evils worse than abandonment - vengeful demons and walking dead. Somehow, Hassen’s family was involved in this dark underworld. Now he has to fight his own internal battle: Is he a good guy or one of the villains?

Then he meets Carissa - a woman he suspects he knew before he lost his memory. She has had a similarly troubled past, and although the two of them are from different worlds, they find a common bond that even dark spirits cannot break. Will Hassen’s good side be strong enough to battle the side that longs to be bad? Will Carissa’s love keep him sane, or will the truth about his family finally cast him into the endless abyss of insanity?

She will also break a 550 year-old curse that imprisons Matthias’s family in their ancestral homeland and exiles Anasztasia’s family from it.

Our Library Visit For April

Hello Everyone! How are you on this fine Wednesday? I'm doing just fine. :) Last week, Mom and I discussed whether we could fit in a visit to our local library - to raid the perpetual book sale! LOL! :)

Well, today was the day and it turned out absolutely wonderfully! We spent about an hour and a half - from 1:45 P. M. to 3:30 P. M. - at the library, and stopped to get tuna subs from Subway.

Between us, we bought 15 hardcovers, 12 paperbacks and 1 jigsaw puzzle . We spent a whopping $15 for a total of 27 books. A pretty good haul, if I do say so, myself. :)

At the moment, I'm reading Dinosaur Lake by Kathryn Meyer Griffith - which I actually started on Monday, March 31st! I've just started Chapter 4! :)
